Paintings by Robert Pennor
Welcome to my on line gallery.  The oil paintings and acrylic
paintings that I create on  canvas are done with a sense of
adventure. These landscapes are not literal copies of a
location such as a photograph would show, but are scenes
that I have interpreted.  By making creative adjustments such
as moving a tree, enhancing the slope of a hill, changing the
color and type of a bush or color of the sky I create a
harmonious composition that works.  So, skies are not always
blue and grass is not always green.

My cityscapes represent Chicago and surrounding cities and
towns in Illinois as well as cities that I have been to in other
states.   My experience as an architectural illustrator has been
a benefit in depicting buildings and the perspective of these
scenes.

A variety of paintbrushes and palette knives and sometimes
even crunched up paper dipped in paint, are the tools that I
use in the creative process.  When viewed up close paint
textures and loose mixtures of colors are clearly apparent.
Viewed from a few feet away or reduced in size, as seen here
the paintings pull together realistically.

All paint and painting mediums, such as: oils, acrylics,
watercolors, pastels, oil sticks, etc. are made with pure
pigment (colored powder).  Some colors are natural and some
are commercially produced.  The difference is the binder that
holds the colored powder together.  Oil is the binder for oil
paints, acrylic resin is the binder for acrylic paints, gum arabic
is the binder for watercolors.

I enjoy working in oils and acrylics for different reasons.
iAcrylic paint is water-based and can be used thinly early in
the painting then built up thickly for the finishing touches.
Drying time is quicker and cleanup with water is a benefit.
With oils I can utilize the longer drying time which allows me to
soften edges and paint wet into wet.

As you view these paintings I will be pleased that you enjoy
them as much as I did creating them.
Thank you for visiting.
